Overcoming Depression in the Morning

Sometimes when you’re struggling to pull yourself up, you can feel trapped in your situation. Even some things, seemingly as small as having the right make up products or just feeling prepared and ready to take on the week can feel insurmountable. There are some mornings when just the thought of taking on my daily tasks is enough to stress me out and ruin my day before I’ve even started.

Now this is typically where another platform might insert a gratitude exercise (which I believe are a great tool) but, not always practical. Personally, I have only ever achieved about 15 straight days of writing down things I’m grateful for. I also don’t have the energy to post about it on regular basis either. After all, it’s personal gratitude, not public.

Nevertheless, I’ve discovered a few hacks on how you can get yourself out of bed on your best and worst days:

01. Have something to get up for other than work or School.

Put all of your anxious, frustrated energy to proper use and have something to accomplish that day. This can range from a load of laundry to a personal project. Either way sit up, slowly, and put your feet to the ground.

02. Have sOmething to love on

Most of us have that one person or thing that needs your love once a day. Get out of bed for that. If for some reason you don’t, you can always DM me.

03. Dont misplace your frustrations

If you’re not in a good mood, don’t pretend to be. We tend to always say we’re okay (mostly so that we don’t have to get into the details) but, don’t forget to have a clear internal understanding of exactly what’s upsetting you. Getting clear with yourself will help you avoid taking your frustrations out on other people.

04. Tell one peRson

If it helps to talk about it, tell one person. Try to limit who you tell your problems to in a single day. Sometimes over talking about your issues can exacerbate them. 4B. Don’t go to the same person every time. We are all going through things and even your most level headed confidant needs a break.

05. Find resources

Self soothing isn’t always enough. Find resources. Whether it’s online or in-person, get connected with people, professionals, or platforms that can help you.
